Farmers Market

Leeds Farmers market offers seasonal harvest fruit and vegetables, home made cakes, jams and chutneys, fresh eggs and organic vegetables to the more unusual like rhubarb cheese, ostrich and venison burgers. Over 70 stalls are open in Leeds Kirkgate open market, George Street ( next to the bus station ) on every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month, from 09h00 to 14h00.

 





WALKTALK - 19 July 2008

WALKTALK is an ambitious and challenging initiative offering a wide variety of people of all ages new opportunities to meet, walk and talk with each other about matters of belief and conscience, especially those that are most challenging and divisive. Starting 19 July 2008 from Millenium Square Leeds, and finishing in Central London a month later, a core key team of WALKTALKERS including Gill Hicks, Joe Kerr, Zulfi Hussain and Together For Peace aim to cover about 10 miles each day, spanning one month in total. There will be official points at each location along the route for people to come and join WALKTALK whether for an hour or two or more as the team walk through. Working in close collaboration with many of these towns and cities along the route. WALKTALK will focus attention on projects which are already fostering local community cohesion. It is hoped that the dialogue will continue in each of the communities where WALKTALK stops overnight, so creating a chain of human connections between Leeds and London. www.walktalk.org.uk

 





Party in the Park and Opera in the Park

Yorkshire's largest free outdoor music party is back when Party in the Park takes centre stage at Temple Newsam on Sunday 27 July 2008. Leeds ultimate pop party will star a fantastic line-up of chart topping acts which is not to be missed. Scouting For Girls have been signed up as one of the star acts of this annual event organised by Leeds City Council in partnership with 96.3 Radio Aire and supported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Enjoy a fabulous evening of classical music and entertainment on Saturday 26 July 2008 at Opera in the Park. Opera North will be joined by leading orchestras to perform a repertoire of music from the movies amid the beautiful surroundings of Temple Newsam Park.

Leeds International Pianoforte Competition - 2009

The 16th Leeds International Pianoforte Competition will be held between 26 August and 13 September 2009. The 15th competition which took place between 6-24 September 2006 marked the 43rd anniversary of the inauguration of the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition founded by Marion Thorpe, Fanny Waterman and Geoffrey de Keyser in 1963. Many of it's prize winners such as Murray Perahia, Radu Lupu, Dmitri Alexeev, Mitsuko Uchida, Andras Schiff, Michel Dalberto, John Kimura Parker and Artur Pizarro have, as a result of winning " The Leeds " gone on to make successful worldwide careers. www.leedspiano.com

Leeds Half Marathon - Sunday 7 September 2008
