City breaks in the summer mean you can truly gain a feel for the culture of a city, take in some food and drink whilst still enjoying the warm weather and sample everything that the area has to offer without restriction. If you plan to take a weekend break in Manchester over the summer, here are our top picks.

Dinner

The Alchemist

Located among Manchester’s finest in the heart of Spinningfields, The Alchemist is a firm favourite for food and drinks lovers across the city.  The food is nothing short of classic, with dishes such as fish and chips or premium steaks starting from just £9.95. But that’s not all they have to offer as the cocktails are not to be missed, offering expertly mixed drinks that won’t disappoint for £6.95.With wide open windows and a gorgeous outdoor terrace, The Alchemist provides the perfect location for those warm summer nights.

Zouk

An Indian restaurant with a difference, Zouk offers a wide range of authentic dishes as well as constantly updating the menu to provide a whole host of exciting seasonal options. These include anything from a unique seafood menu to dishes cooked over charcoal or sigri grills, and chef specials which change on a regular basis to include little known delights from various corners of the world.

Drinks

Tusk

An African themed bar situated in the ever trendy Northern Quarter with a speciality for cocktails, Tusk is perfect for that summer evening. Although prices may seem a little high (with the average being around £8) happy hour between 5 and 8pm gives you the chance to enjoy a relaxing meal or drink without breaking the bank. Playing indie/alternative music alongside great service makes Tusk the go to bar for any occasion.

The Mark Addy

Having recently been taken over by new owners, The Mark Addy can be considered as one of the hidden gems of Manchester. Found on the Salford side of the canal and known for its great selection of beers it seems this is the perfect place for a pint in the sun.

Entertainment

Screenfields

Every Thursday throughout the summer Spinningfields presents Screenfields, where classic films will be shown on The Lawns, whatever weather the British summer provides us with. The yellow deck chairs are back, together with some new double deck chairs making this a perfect spot for date night. No booking is necessary, just turn up on the night and pick up your ticket for just £3.

If you’re planning to take a summer weekend break, and Manchester is your destination of choice, these suggestions are all great choices for enjoying the best of Manchester’s food and drink culture, whilst experiencing the warm weather of summer. If you like what you see in the city, and plan to visit, grab a booking at Roomzzz, and enjoy a relaxed weekend in this gem of the north.
