August Bank Holiday Weekend

Posted on:

With the extended three day weekend now on the horizon, we can all begin to look forward to that extra day off work, and the opportunity to enjoy something a little different over the weekend. The perfect opportunity to enjoy a city break, let your hair down and have a truly enjoyable, relaxing time, the bank holiday provides plenty of opportunity to head away. If you’re looking for an exciting city break over the August Bank Holiday, here are our top picks.

Newcastle

When it comes to a weekend city break, Newcastle truly is a gem in the north. Offering a real diverse city experience, you can experience riverside on the Quayside, a stunning play at the Theatre Royal, or some of the city’s renowned nightlife all within under five minutes walk. Bars like Babucho and Popolo exude an air of elegance upon entering, and are the perfect spots to head to if you want to splash out with an exquisite meal and drinks in an elegant environment. Offering extensive cocktails, spirits and more continental lagers on tap, these two locations are two of the most refined bars in the area. Offering something a little different, Pleased To Meet You is another elegant bar which has made a name for itself through specialising in Gin drinks, and whilst it gets busy on a weekend, the selection of exotic offerings available to customers makes it a definite bar to head to.

Manchester

When it comes to evening entertainment, Manchester truly boasts an embarrassment of riches. With modern and sophisticated bars a plenty, smaller, independent locations available in abundance, a number of theatre to boot if you fancy some culture, and the renowned Comedy Store on offer if you fancy a lighter laugh, you won’t struggle to find a destination that perfectly suits your night. If you’re after our pick of the bunch, why not head to Apotheca. Everything about the bar and restaurant screams modern and trendy, and with a location in the popular Northern Quarter of the city, the bar has grown a reputation as one of the première hotspots in the Manchester. With imported lagers, creative cocktails and an classy yet extensive wine list, all situated within a unique and stylish environment, it’s no surprise Apotheca has a portfolio of awards and quality reviews to boast.

Leeds

As with both Manchester and Newcastle, Leeds has extensive offerings throughout the city when it comes to enjoying food, drink and entertainment. If you’re looking for an area of the city where all three are available in abundance however, then the offerings in Trinity allow you to sample some of the best food and drink in the city, all under one roof.  If you’re after a no expense spared evening out, Crafthouse and Angelica are the jewel in the crown of the city, offering high quality cuisine from the renowned D&D group of restaurants. With bars such as the Alchemist and the quirky underground Botanist, you can enjoy the surroundings just as much as your food and drink this Bank Holiday. If you’re after something a little different, head to Roxy Ball Room, just around the corner, for their unique combination of craft and local beers, table tennis and pool.

If you’re heading off for a city break this Bank Holiday Weekend, check into rooms, and enjoy a truly enjoyable three day break.

Our guide to a refined evening in Manchester

Posted on:

If you’re looking for a diverse and memorable night, Manchester is an ideal getaway. The birthplace of timeless musical acts and cultural movements as well as being home to a host of busy clubs and bars; the city possesses an electric contemporary vibe that will carry through the night. Manchester really is the place to be for great food, music and a taste of the best of nightlife in the north of England.

Drinks

To start the night, pay a visit to Apotheca in the city’s suave Northern Quarter. Offering a range of bespoke, award-winning cocktails with a stylish backdrop, you can take a sip of the finest drinks before starting the second half of your night. Whether it’s at the vast Phones 4U Arena to see anything from a boxing match to a music concert, to a performance from one of the areas up and coming comics at the Comedy Store.

Dinner

For a bite to eat, you can stay at Apotheca and enjoy their range of evening meals or visit 63 Degrees on Church Street and enjoy their exceptional French cuisine. The food is made with a warm family feel and the restaurant is very popular for its ambiance and professional service. Not far away from the Northern Quarter, you can enjoy a delicious meal within walking distance of the city’s bars and clubs. The close knit feel of the city means you don’t have to spend too much time getting to one place from another and that makes it the perfect destination for a weekend break.

Entertainment

Long established as a go-to place for an amazing night out, Manchester doesn’t disappoint with a hostof lively nightclubs and super-cool bars. For a great nightclub experience, visit 42nd Street for a Rock n’ Roll vibe or for some smooth House sounds take a trip to Venus Club in Blackfriars. As for bars, a true VIP experience can be had at Cloud 23 Bar, located in Deansgate. The bar offers a spectacular view of the city, and you can enjoy the finest beverages whilst observing Manchester’s unique skyline – a mixture of contemporary and classic architecture. For something a little more vibrant, pay a visit to The Liars Club on Back Bridge Street and sample their vast collection of rums and cocktails which number well into the hundreds. If you’re looking for a bigger night, the Phones4u Arena offers a varied scope of events. Hosting artists from McBusted to Nine Inch Nails, there’s a performance for whatever mood you are in.

‘Really enjoyed staying at this hotel. We stayed in a Grande Studio for 1 night. The room was big, the bed very comfortable, we didnt hear any street noise, and the bathroom and rain shower were lovely.
We used the kitchen and it all worked fine, very modern.
The apple macs were a nice touch.
Reception staff were very polite and helpful, would definitely stay here again.’
