Great views of Newcastle – #7

Grey’s Monument is a Grade I listed monument built in 1838 in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. It was erected to Earl Grey for the passing of the Great Reform Act of 1832 and stands at the top of Grey Street.
A spiral staircase leads to a viewing platform at the top of the monument, which is occasionally opened to the public. Old photographs show that the monument was originally on a traffic island but these days the area around the monument is now pedestrianised and is home to many shops.
Our favourite FACT is that in 2007 the Monument hosted the first major Newcastle Flash mob event when over 500 people gathered around the landmark joined in a conga line.
And the final Grey’s Monument FACT is…. The Maxïmo Park song By the Monument refers to Grey’s Monument.
We are loving finding out all these FACTs and taking in the views… it won’t be long now before our very own hotel in Newcastle City Centre is up and running…

Ding ding…. tour of Manchester anybody?

Whenever I visit a new city I always try to do an open top bus tour… it’s a fantastic way to get your bearings and make a note of things to go back and see later! So here at Roomzzz we were very excited to learn that Manchester now has it’s very own tour… so if you are staying in our city centre hotel in Manchester why not take a trip around the city on the bus… the tours take in the city’s landmarks such as the Town Hall, Eastlands and Old Trafford, MediaCity, Chinatown and more!

“Very impressed, wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Manchester now!”

Just returned from a two day trip to Manchester and I was really very impressed by the service and quality received at Roomzzz. We usually stay in hotels but i’d read lots of good reviews on here and thought the price was excellent so decided to book us into the Liberty Suite.

On arrival we were welcomed with a free complimentary upgrade to the Maxima Suite! The room was stunning, really spacious with lots of little luxury touches. Staff at reception were really friendly and very helpful. The grab and go breakfast in the morning which is included in the price of your room is just perfect – wide range of pastries and fresh fruit, juices, hot drinks etc which you can sit and enjoy in the breakfast area or take back to your room which we did as we loved the room so much!

Overall Roomzzz is really great value for money. It is right in the heart of Manchester and we would definitely stay here again on our next trip up north.

Great views of Newcastle – #2

The Tyne Bridge is over the River Tyne in Newcastle, linking the city to Gateshead.  At the time of its construction it was the world’s longest single span bridge. The bridge was officially opened on 10 October 1928 by King George V and has since become a defining symbol of Tyneside. It currently stands as the tenth tallest structure in the city.

Another great stay at Roomzzz….

Stephen Scott stayed in our Manchester city centre hotel… glad they had a great time!

Last time we were here we had our four children with us and they loved it. This time we wanted a night away from the kids and wanted to sample some of Manchester’s night life.

We had a lovely welcome, and had another great stay. Thanks again Roomzzz.

Stay with us… staycation!

So what is a staycation?
Wikipedia tells us:
“A staycation (also spelled stay-cation, stacation, or staykation) is a neologism for a period in which an individual or family stays and relaxes at home, possibly taking day trips to area attractions.
Common activities of a staycation include use of the backyard pool, visits to local parks and museums, and attendance at local festivals. Some staycationers also like to follow a set of rules, such as setting a start and end date, planning ahead, and avoiding routine, with the goal of creating the feel of a traditional vacation.”
