It’s finally Friday!

Ooooo blimey it’s chilly this morning… and with snow forecast for the weekend… what a better way to keep warm than with a spot of brain exercise?

“Excellent accommodation near the train station and city centre”

The hotel is very conveniently located just a short walk away from the train station. Staff were friendly and helpful. For instance, I requested extra pillows for the room, and these were brought up before bedtime. I phoned reception to ask about rebooting the Mac in the room, and was given good advice on how to do that. The room itself comes with good facilities. Free wifi is always great. And my boyfriend and I were particularly taken by the lovely underfloor heating in the bathroom! The little kitchen was handy, as we got some ready meals from Marks & Spenser’s at the station – again, only a few minutes walk away – and heated up those for dinner when we didn’t feel like eating out. There are also plenty of nearby restaurants to eat at, if you don’t want to prepare food for yourself.

There was enough closet space for an overnight stay, and also a little in-room safe. The room faced to the rear of the building, and was very quiet with little noise, despite over stay being on the weekend. The bed was very comfortable. If there was one thing I wasn’t so keen on, the air conditioning didn’t warm the room up as well as I’d have liked. But that aside, we had a very pleasant stay. I would certainly be happy to return, and would also recommend the hotel to friends.

Things to do in Yorkshire….

Big towns, bright stars

Both cities we operate in are the largest England’s northern counties have to offer. And, as such, spend plenty of time in the public eye.

Boasting quality accommodation in Manchester, and the same unique combination of serviced apartments and boutique hotels in Leeds, our doors have had their fair share of celebrity names walk through them. But last week our attention was focused on the stars lining up at the National Television Awards in London.

This year saw the BBC’s Waterloo Road pick up Best Drama. It’s set in Rochdale, a few miles from Roomzzz Aparthotel – Manchester City, making us more than a little proud. And, although somewhat further away, Ant & Dec continued to represent the North on a big scale, collecting the coveted Best Entertainment Presenter award for a tenth time.

Past victors have included esteemed Yorkshire-men, such as Michael Parkinson, Manchester-born icons like John Thaw, and Ricky Tomlinson, a latter-day Lancastrian legend. And, programme wise, the historic Shires have taken home silverware thanks to Last of the Summer Wine, Coronation Street and Cold Feet to name but three.

Leeds, Manchester, and their surrounding areas all have established histories when it comes to filming. The latter has given us small screen memories in the shape of This Life, with Looking For Eric, Alfie, 24 Hour Party People and Marvel’s forthcoming Captain America amongst the recent feature films to use its streets. And, as for the former, mentioning Spooks, Five Days, The Damned United and the acclaimed Red Riding trilogy proves it rivals that neighbour over the hills.
