It’s nearly bonfire night, and as Guy Fawkes was actually born in Yorkshire where we coincidently have 3 lovely hotels, we thought we’d take a look at what’s happening in the area, so here’s a round up of bonfires around Leeds!

What’s on… Yorkshire!

THE main event in the county is The Great Yorkshire Show and the 153rd event takes place on Tuesday 12, Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 July, 2011 when the cream of the country’s livestock, edge-of-the-seat displays, acres of shopping opportunities and countryside activities are just some of the “must sees” on the timetable.

Fodder… Part I

Now it if the image above looks familiar to you… if this is how your dining table at home is more commonly seen, then you’ll be looking for some recommendations on food and where to eat out this weekend and over the Spring Bank Holiday… why not treat yourself to a foodie break?

Now when you stay at Roomzzz you have a couple of ways you can achieve this…. you can take the ‘easy’ option and visit a local restaurant OR remember that in our apart hotels you could spend your afternoon searching out ingredients in the vicinity and then cook up a storm with your partners in crime… If you’re with us for the entire weekend – why not do both? Whether you are staying in a hotel in Leeds city centre or Manchester city centre you have a whole world of delights to discover whichever option you choose!

Now in Leeds we have the famous Kirkgate Market…. this is the market where Mr Marks and Mr Spencer had their first stall and if you’ve never been it’s worth a trip to Leeds for. There are over 800 market stalls with separate sections for meat, fish and vegetables undercover and a large outdoor area – from the mundane to the exotic shopping for food here really is an experience!

The coast near Cannes is far removed from the canals and Corn Exchange of Leeds. But at this time of year they feel a little closer, what with Yorkshire’s biggest city hosting the UK’s third largest International Film Festival at the moment.

We already pointed you to Leeds’ 24th cinematic celebration on this blog, but now the time has finally arrived we couldn’t help but give another heads up. After all, it’s not just the final major European movie event of the year, it’s also widely regarded as the best audience focused event in the country. So there’s no better time to book a short break in this fine city.

Events began last week, with Tom Hooper’s acclaimed George IV biopic, The King’s Speech. A sell out well before the screening, if you missed the chance to get tickets, then perhaps booking accomodation in Leeds for the weekend of November 20th is a good idea. A second showing will take place at Hyde Park Picture House, conveniently located close to Roomzzz City West.

Away from historic dramas, and onto more oddball antics, the critically lauded Cravendale-style animation, A Town Called Panic, has its final moment of glory on Tuesday November 9th, at Leeds Town Hall. We highly recommend this film, after all, the story- which follows madcap characters on the hunt for the perfect home- is close to our hearts.

Other highlights over the next seven days include Stanley Kubrick’s 50-years-on-and-still-hilarious Dr Strangelove, or How I Learnt to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, which needs little introduction before it screens tonight and Wednesday. And further reasons to visit this week can be found in Anton ‘Control’ Corbijin’s eagerly anticipated George Clooney thriller, The American. You can catch that on Thursday 11th and Saturday 13th, again at Hyde Park Picture House.
