Home from Home…

We’ve always like to think of Roomzzz as a Home from Home… and now one of our lovely guests who stayed in our Manchester hotel has said it for us!
5 of 5 starsReviewed 20 April 2012
Check-in is not until 2pm and I arrived at 1030 and was greeted by a friendly, helpful receptionist who took my luggage and told me to come back at 1.30pm and my room would be ready.

My room was spacious and bright and well laid out. The furnishings were modern and good quality with a well equipped kitchen which I did not use. Free Wi-Fi and a good work station means that one can work in comfort and not feel cramped.

The shower was large and powerful and the towels excellent quality. Breakfast is included but it is a bit basic but convenient. Certainly this place is a great facility right in the centre of Manchester.

The view from Manchester in 2011

Posted on: No Comments

January is here, and with it a wealth of opportunities. Our marriage of serviced apartment and luxury hotel offers one of the finest hotels in Manchester, the perfect destination for a short break. And there are a multitude of new reasons to visit on the horizon.

2011 is set to be a year of upheaval, as change begins to take place once again. Back in 1997 major public realm redevelopments began following the devastating IRA bomb, and since then areas like Exchange Square and Piccadilly Gardens have been introduced and improved upon respectively. Now a further batch of major facelifts is about to begin.

Over the next couple of months Manchester City Council will finally unveil the winner of its international competition to re-design St Peter’s Square. The works will run alongside those currently taking place in the Town Hall and Central Library. Once complete the area will be amongst the most illustrious in the city centre, in keeping with the swathes of history the site is steeped in.

As their old stage has closed, the Library Theatre Company (LTC) will now be taking up residence in Salford’s award winning Lowry Arts Centre- a short tram ride from town and well worth the visit. Meanwhile, close to Oxford Road, First Street will see a huge project get underway as a stunning theatre, performance space and cinema complex looks to offer the Cornerhouse Gallery and LTC new homes from 2014.

At the other end of town the skyline is coming back to life with cranes too. Just ask those arriving by train, who may have already seen signs that the Co-Operative’s new landmark, 16-storey HQ is gradually beginning to take shape. Nearby Victoria Station will finally get the investment it needs, returning this wonderfully British transport hub to its former glory with the aid of some £750 million. And the long awaited Metrolink tramway extensions will also begin to open this year, meaning adventurous visitors can access lively suburbs like Chorlton-cum-Hardy with greater ease.

As you can see it’s going to be quite a year, as Manchester’s energetic pace refuses to slow. Everything points to an ongoing belief in using the city for business and leisure. So why not find out why. Roomzzz Aparthotel is on the doorstep of countless theatres, conference centres and more, providing an ideal home from home to use as a base while you’re in town. And because we’re not passing the VAT increase on to you, it’s hard to find an excuse not to get yourself here.

The best travel blogs in the world… ever

Posted on: No Comments

Bloggers. Scourge of traditional journalism or the next generation of trend-setters, movers and shakers?

The jury has been out for some time, though increasingly people are respecting these independent editors, referencing their work, and awarding their achievements. We appreciate their craft, and as such have put together this list of the best travel blogs in cyberspace.

Travel Rants
Travel rants discusses everything from banning alcohol on flights, to the worst (and best) budget hotels in London. It’s all aimed at spreading knowledge, saving explorers time, money and hassle in the process.

The Perrin Post
Despite the confusing number of posts regarding Richard Branson, The Perrin Post is written by Wendy Perrin, who works on luxury publisher Conde Naste’s Traveler magazine. As far as we can see, she has nothing to do with Virgin.

Escape Blog
Travel on a far flung scale. From Jordan and the Dead Sea to Moscow and the Gobi Desert, it’s all here. Written with wit and a desire to pass on local secrets, it really does make for an invaluable read.

Technology shapes our lives, and the travel world is no different. From theme park ticketing apps to the latest Facebook functionality, learn how it affects where you’re flying to, and who’s taking you there.

You don’t apply a label like ‘The UK Travel Blog’ without good reason. Wandalust provides British travellers with tips on avoiding excess charges, staying safe, and selecting the perfect destination.

Seat 61
Who is the man in seat 61? It’s a question that’s banded about quite a bit on this blog site. We’re not too bothered, but his advice on UK and international travel by rail and boat is vital for fearful fliers.

Celebs and the cities

Posted on: No Comments

Manchester and Leeds may seem a million miles away from Manhattan and LA, but appearances can be deceiving. As we’ve discovered, our Roomzzz are regularly housing stars from the region and beyond.

Our unique approach to accommodation has already caught the eye of major sporting figures, no doubt in part thanks to our opulent Suites reminding them of their own exclusive pads. Our Manchester City site has welcomed world class snooker talent to town, though the appeal seems to be too much even for locals to resist, as reservations from members of both City and United’s entourage have shown.

Down the M62 and over the Pennines, Leeds pulls in visitors by the thousands each week. Until recently it was the UK’s favourite city, and the fastest growing metropolis in Europe. It’s big on shopping and bigger on nightlife, but that’s only half the story. A huge football heritage means the city speaks sport, and stars from teams like Leeds United have enjoyed Grab and Go Breakfasts after staying with us.

Whether you opt for a Grand Studio or Emperor Suite each comes equipped with a large screen LCD TV, but that’s not where our relationship with the small screen stops. Both Yorkshire and Granada TV studios are located close to our city centre sites, which explains why famous faces from institutions like Coronation Street and Emmerdale are no strangers to us.

Of course, there are autograph moments to be had outside our walls, and we strongly advise you take advantage of our prime locations, with some of the country’s best bars, boutiques, restaurants, museums and clubs right on your doorstep. Everyone from bands and actors to politicians and cultural leaders makes Leeds and Manchester regular destinations for performances, conferences and relaxation. So it’s easy to imagine who you might spot on your next stay with us.
