What do we hear from our spectacular combination of serviced apartments and boutique hotels in Leeds? Westminster Abbey might be a few hundred miles south, but wedding bells are ringing in Yorkshire.
Likewise, our high-specification accommodation in central Manchester is alive with talk of Friday April 29th. Prince William and Kate Middleton are to marry in the most prestigious venue England has to offer, while up and down the country people will be getting in on the act, and celebrating in style.
As you can imagine, London will be bursting to the brim with eager spectators, clambering for a peek at the beautiful bride. But fear not, a trip to the capital isn’t the only way to make sure you feel part of the event. Many a council plans to mark the occasion, and there will no doubt be plenty going on in most towns.
It’s also the perfect time of year for a short break in a British city. The nights will be lighter, temperatures milder, and you’ll still have enough time to save for that summer holiday. So, if up North East or North West when the big day finally arrives, here are our top tips for ‘joining in’, in your own special way…
Indulge in fantasy (just don’t get too involved)
Caroline Castigliano is amongst the UK’s most acclaimed wedding dress-makers. Do some window-shopping, or dare to step inside the Headrow boutique, then resume your Leeds retail therapy elsewhere.
Remember the details
Delicacies are essential, real wedding or not. Slattery’s in Prestwich is Manchester’s chocolate heaven. Hark as complicated cakes are painstakingly crafted, before filling your boots in the tearoom upstairs.
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend
Dazzle, the UK’s leading jewellery exhibition and fare, just left Manchester. But head across town to the Northern Quarter’s Craft Centre for perfect rings, and five minutes with the designer.
Tea at the Palace
Temple Newsam House is truly unique. Comprising a stately home widely known as the ‘Hampton Court of the north’, gardens, grounds and a rare breed farm, there’s no finer place to be in Leeds at 3pm.
A blue-blooded pursuit
Hunting isn’t a city activity. But travel 20 minutes from Manchester city centre to aim over 400 acres of beautiful woodland at Manchester Clay Shooting Club in Worsley, before retiring to the drawing room.
