One Night in Leeds

Posted on:

Dinner

Blackhouse Bar and Grill

Blackhouse truly is one of Leeds’ best restaurants. Located in the city centre, Blackhouse’s Grill on the Square offers both heated outdoor and spacious indoor seating, allowing you to enjoy a meal and drinks in a relaxing environment with a great ambiance.  With a vast range of wines to accompany your meal, even the connoisseurs amongst us will be spoilt for choice. Food choices range from traditionally cooked steaks to fajitas and moules frites. To kick off your meal, why not opt for either calamari or Thai fishcakes as a starter, they come highly recommended.

Fazenda
Fazenda Brazilian steakhouse has fast become one of Leeds’ most talked about restaurants. Offering an ‘all you can eat meat’ experience, diners are treated to vast selections of cuts and sides for a set price. It might not be cheap, with the cost coming in at £25.95 per person through the week, and rising to £27.90 on weekends, but with surroundings far classier than your standard buffet, and a great location in Granary Wharf, the restaurant is fast becoming a favourite for the residents of Leeds. Grab as much steak as you want, whilst not even having to leave your seat, as Fazenda’s waiters tend to your every need.

Drinks

Skylounge
Sitting on the top floor of Hilton’s Double Tree Hotel in Granary Wharf, Skylounge provides arguably the best view of the city. With unbelievable views over the Leeds night sky, enjoy your sociable drink whilst taking in the sights of the city. If the weather is kind enough, you can even take a seat in the balcony seating area, and absorb some of the night-time sounds of Leeds.

Curvee
A trendy wine bar targeting a higher end clientele, Curvee offers a selection of premium wines. Specialising in red, there is plenty of choice for the wine lover, with a tipple to suit any palette. Whether a pre-meal beverage, or winding down after eating, head to Curvee on Granary Wharf for a classy drinking experience.

Dancing

The Wardrobe

Built in a semi-derelict building used for storing the West Yorkshire Playhouse’s props and costume department – hence the name, The Wardrobe is a club that offers a music scene to rival any in the country, priding itself on being an intimate club for musicians to perform at. With a style showcasing everything from folk, to funk and soul, reggae, hip hop and everything in between, The Wardrobe has played host to some amazing and historic shows. With a resume to contend with the best of Leeds night venues, past gigs have included the likes of Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey-Rae and Beverley Knight. There’s nowhere in Leeds like it.

HiFi
With an emphasis on quality music, The HiFi is a nightclub well worth visiting when in Leeds. Having won awards for being a music venue, the bar and club provides an enjoyable location for your post-dinner entertainment.  Not the typical rowdy club that makes socialising impossible, HiFi is the kind of place that allows you to grab a few mates together with a genuine appreciation of good music and dance the night away.

Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s time for you to get your plans into full swing. Whether you’re looking to head into the city centre, or for something a little different, we’ve handpicked some of the best Halloween events taking place in Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle.

Leeds

Harvey Nichols – Halloween Film Night at Espresso Bar

Harvey Nichols fourth floor espresso bar is hosting a Halloween film night on the 31st October. The movie, Edward Scissorhands, will be playing at 7pm while customers indulge in a delicious three-course meal. The evening will cost £24.50 and a £10 deposit will be required when booking. If a film and meal isn’t enough to satisfy your Halloween needs, the event finishes in plenty of time for you to head into Leeds and sample some of the best outfits donned by party-goers at events such as The Voodoo Halloween Showcase at the O2 Academy.

Paranormal Investigation – Leeds Town Hall

If you’re wanting to take a different approach to a night out this Halloween, the first ever paranormal investigation is taking place underneath the Leeds Town Hall in the Victorian Cells. The event runs from 8.00pm till 2.30am with light refreshments available during the breaks. Throughout the night you will experience ‘table tipping’, an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) session, a Ouija board experiment to contact spirits, along with many more spooky activities. This special event will cost £45.00 per person, and will definitely be a night to remember!

Manchester

Grosvenor Casino Murder Mystery

On the 26th October, the ‘Most Spooked’ murder mystery is taking place at the Grosvenor Casino in Salford. Consisting of a ‘murder’ and a two-course meal, this dining experience, which only costs £17.95, is set to be more unusual than most. Individuals interrogate each other and will slowly unravel the crime as all the evidence is exposed. The night runs from 7pm to 10:30pm, leaving you plenty of the night to head back into Manchester if the mood takes you.

Querky! Halloween Special- Tiger Tiger Manchester

If Halloween fancy dress is your thing, and you think of yourself as an expert costume designer, why not show off your skills on your Halloween night out? Head down to Tiger Tiger in Manchester for their Halloween Querky event, where the best dressed guest of the night will bag themselves £500. Not bad for a nights work!

Newcastle

Halloween Drive-In Movie Theatre

From the 31st October to 2nd November there will be a variety of scary films showing on the newly established drive-in movie theatre in Bents Park. With two viewings each night, the movies generally commence around 6pm or 9pm. Tickets are £20 per car or £24 if you wish to be in the front row. A variety of food is also available (just don’t drop it on your seats!). Give your Halloween experience a taste of America with this rare event.

Halloween Night Ghost Walk

On the 31st October, a Halloween ghost walk is taking place in the Castle Prison and Dungeon Séance. The castle is considered to be one of Newcastle’s most haunted places, and has hundreds of real-life stories linked to gruesome evidence. There will be Ouija boards, EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) recordings and a creepy tour of the historic castle by candlelight. Tickets are £10 if you book online and £15 on the door, with the walk taking around an hour and a half to complete.

October: A month in music

Posted on:

With the dark nights drawing in and winter restricting your options when it comes to evening activities, we take a look at the music scene around three of the UK’s major northern cities. From arena sell-outs to local smaller venues, we’ve got your evenings sorted.

Leeds
Although the new First Direct Arena is now officially open for business, the musical acts don’t get into full swing until November. However there are still plenty of smaller venues in the city. Head to the O2 Academy website for an array of artists, DJs and nights out available. Having received widespread acclaim for their debut album Bad Blood, Bastille are heading to Leeds’ O2 Academy on the 21st October as they blast out crowd favourites Pompeii and Laura Palmer. Concerts from Suede, Travis and the Goo Goo Dolls are highlights for the rest of the month, so make sure you check online for tickets to make sure you don’t miss out.

Newcastle
The Arctic Monkeys head to Newcastle’s Metro Arena as our top pick of concerts for October. The Sheffield rockers roll into Newcastle for a performance on the 22nd October. Tickets for the event sold out immediately upon release, with UK concert dates proving to be like gold dust, however if you can find a ticket at an official resale retailer online, it’s a no-brainer to go and see the Yorkshire four piece on this leg of their world tour. Another big name hitting the Geordie music scene this month is Jessie J, whose performance on the 26th is a rescheduling of her cancelled gig from March this year.

Manchester
Big name stars Billy Joel and Peter Gabriel hit Manchester later this month, providing ample entertainment for fans of 70′s and 80′s music. World famous pianist Billy Joel’s stop in Manchester is one of only three English dates, so tickets are sure to be in high demand, but are currently still available. Having embarked on a solo career after leaving rockers Genesis prior to his 1977 debut solo album, Peter Gabriel has enjoyed a long and successful career. Be sure to catch him in Manchester before he ends his tour and takes a sabbatical from the music industry.

Be sure to plan your concert night in advance, and if you’re looking to stay in the city rather than begin the drive home late at night, visit Roomzzz to check for vacancies.
