“Excellent base for business”

Our city centre hotel in Manchester gets 5 stars again…..

“Excellent base for business”

Reviewed 7 May 2012
I have stayed here for a total of 20 nights since January for business, having finally given up on the Radisson. The location is very good, and the rooms (particularly the Maxima suites) are clean, comfortable and spacious. There is ample space to work (unlike many hotel rooms) and the addition of a Mac is a plus. The staff are friendly and helpful.

The maxima suites are superb – and for the price – cannot be bettered; an added bonus when on business is having a private space to sit and chat to colleagues.

There are lots of restaurants nearby to pick up a take-away (try Red Chilli at 70 Portland Street if you are adventurous) and there are also branches of Sainsbury’s and Tesco Express nearby.

There is a discount of 30% on the car park at Q-Park (entrance on St James Street; exit by foot to Faulkner street at side of Roomzzz) which is very convenient.

A new £5 million hotel is set to open in Newcastle, creating around 20 jobs for the city.

Roomzzz Aparthotel are in the process of restoring Friar House in the city centre, creating 44 luxury apartments and suites.

The sites is the fifth in the Roomzzz Aparthotel portfolio, adding to sites in Manchester and Leeds.

Commenting on the announcement, Mark Walton, head of Roomzz Aparthotel UK said: “We are bringing an influx of new jobs to the City and are looking forward to Roomzzz Newcastle CITY sharing Newcastle’s famed warmth and hospitality through the Aparthotel and our choice of team to all of our guests.

“Newcastle City is a chic stay-away from home which gives suggestions and aspirations to a luxurious lifestyle that sometimes may seem beyond our day to day reach – we match luxe and Apple technology with affordability and practicality,  the combination of which promises to strengthen the marketplace  in terms of luxury stays in Newcastle.”

The restoration of the Georgian Friar House is now underway, and all planning, design, restoration and construction work has been tendered to local companies in two phases.

Mark continued: ‘The planning, design and build surrounding an historic building such as Friar House has demanded we work closely with Newcastle council as well as with sympathy for the building and area as well as extreme care and expertise. We are delighted with the progress that has been made on site so far and the team are ahead of schedule for completion’.

He now hopes that the hotel will strengthen the marketplace in terms of luxury stays in the Newcastle area.

“Newcastle City is an incredibly exciting location for the brand – we are looking forward to being immersed in the rich vibrancy that the City offers residents and tourists alike. We are proud to be a part of Newcastle’s hospitable future.”

Great views of Newcastle – #7

Grey’s Monument is a Grade I listed monument built in 1838 in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. It was erected to Earl Grey for the passing of the Great Reform Act of 1832 and stands at the top of Grey Street.
A spiral staircase leads to a viewing platform at the top of the monument, which is occasionally opened to the public. Old photographs show that the monument was originally on a traffic island but these days the area around the monument is now pedestrianised and is home to many shops.
Our favourite FACT is that in 2007 the Monument hosted the first major Newcastle Flash mob event when over 500 people gathered around the landmark joined in a conga line.
And the final Grey’s Monument FACT is…. The Maxïmo Park song By the Monument refers to Grey’s Monument.
We are loving finding out all these FACTs and taking in the views… it won’t be long now before our very own hotel in Newcastle City Centre is up and running…

Hurrah for Bank Holidays….! Part #1

So what do you all have planned for the weekend then? Mayday…  the first Bank Holiday in May… you could use this one as preparation for a few weeks time when this year we get an extra day for The Queen’s Jubilee…
We’ve been taking a look at what’s happening nearby so that if you’re visiting our city centre hotel in Manchester or our aparthotel in Leeds you know where to head to see the best of the Bank Holiday Entertainment…!
So today the focus is on Manchester… now my favourite thing to do on a Bank Holiday is to kick back with a drink, some great BBQ food and listen to some tunes… usually I have to do this in my own garden… but this year I don’t have to do this… I can head to Spinningfields for Spinfest… On Sunday 6th and Monday 7th the focus is American Vintage – smooth sounds of the USA with live acts performing soul, jazz, swing, jive, and classic pop. Plus children’s activities, BBQ food, hog roast, and drinks available from The Oast House…. Mmmmmm…. sounds perfect…. and I’m sure someone will lay on a deck chair!
