Check out these lovely reviews we’ve had in the last week! All these people stayed in Manchester Roomzzz…

5 of 5 stars“Will be back for sure”

p1trick – Ireland

Stayed at Roomzzz recently for my husbands birthday and was extremely impressed.

Booked the grande studio which was spotlessly clean and had everything you would need for a weekend away. All the staff at reception were extremely helpfull especially Paris who worked the night shift .We will definitely be back.Only small negative is that the walls of our room(309) seemed a little thin as you could hear the guests in the room next door speaking to each other but it didn’t keep us awake at night. I have already recommended it to all my family.

5 of 5 stars“Ultra modern hotel at affordable prices”

Manxie 26 – Isle of Man

Our room was gorgeous, was like staying in a rented ultra modern apartment. The shower we had in our room could probably have fitted 5 people in it! We had the croissants from the grab and go breakfast which were handy to take whilst walking to the tourist sights. Only 5-10 minute walk to the shops/bars/restaurants. Would stay again!

5 of 5 stars“Spacious room!!”

As I booked the whole journey with lovely B&Bs, to be honest I really was not certain when came to a… hotel.

Well, I worried too much : )

You cannot imagine how big the room & bathroom is! Oh of course cannot forget the lovely MAC in the room, nice.

Only the breakfast is not so competitive, but no biggy, there are plenty of cafes nearby.

“Another great stay”

4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011 by Drewyorks who stayed at Leeds City:-

This is the forth time of staying at this hotel. Once again a good stay. Nice room, with good in room facilities.(Kitchen, small sofa, chair, table, desk, mac pc, tv, heated floor in the shower room etc

I do prefer having the option of a bath in my hotel room, which this hotel doesn’t have, but that’s a minor point. There’s no restaurant, but again, this isn’t important to me – and you can always eat in your room, as there’s a kitchen, and the hotel is near lots of places to eat.

The lady on reception remembered me from my last visit – and was very welcoming and friendly – great customer service. Check in was super fast and uncomplicated, as was check out – very organised, something which other hotels could learn from.

Great bonus when staying here is that you get REAL car park discount. Other hotels in Leeds offer car park discounts and in reality the discount is very small. Here, NCP charges £17.50 overnight, and you only pay £6.00 when using the voucher from the hotel.

The hotel locks it’s front door on a night (very sensible), and the usual reception staff are replaced by security staff. Sometimes people working in secruity roles don’t have a great reputation for customer service, however these guys were very friendly and polite – they are a credit to the hotel.

thanks for another good stay.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for a quiet room, as the hotel does front onto a busy road and a club/bar to the side.

FREE things in Manchester….

Posted on: No Comments
Earlier in the year we published a blog about the great FREE things you can do in Manchester…. as we’re nearing the end of the school holidays we thought you might appreciate this list again! Just think…. if you won Friday Favourites you could come to Manchester and do all these things without spending a penny! OR would give you more to spend in the shops!
  1. John Rylands Library – A gothic sandstone building on Deansgate recently juxtaposed with a clever modern visitor centre. This fabulous legacy of Cottonopolis was commissioned by Cuban-born Enriqueta Rylands in memory of her philanthropist textile manufacturer husband. There’s more about Manchester’s first multi-millionaire and some fascinating changing exhibitions in the cathedral-like public reading rooms.
  1. Royal Northern College of Music – The only UK conservatoire to be a centre for excellence in teaching and learning, but you can still hear the talented students play for free! Orchestral performances take place in the late-60s concert hall, while the RNCM’s best-kept secret is their Wednesday-lunchtime recitals by soloists and smaller ensembles in the calming and charming setting of St Ann’s Church.
  2. Heaton Park – Manchester’s biggest green space, with lovely views both back over town and out to the Pennines. There’s plenty to do whatever your age: a well-equipped children’s playground; rowing boats, woodland walks and cycle paths; even a grand 18th-century mansion and farm. It’s also home to beekeepers, astronomers, trolley-bus enthusiasts and the Commonwealth Bowling Club.
  3. City Airport – Formerly known as Barton Aerodrome, this was the UK’s first purpose-built municipal airport and it’s still in action today. Sit in the beer garden and watch small planes bump excitedly along the grassy runway as they take off and land, and climb up the Art Deco control tower that dates from 1933.
  1. Whitworth Art Gallery – There’s always something worth seeing at this gallery, part of Manchester University; not least the soon-to-be developed building and its parkside location. Recent highlights have been the Subversive Spaces surrealism show, the American Scene prints exhibition and Walls Are Talking, and the varied event programme includes related talks held in the “secret” lecture theatre.

Manchester Bee!

Posted on: No Comments

Yesterday we asked our Manchester Facebook fans, ‘which insect is connected to Manchester?’ Someone suggested the Museum Mummy! But no the symbol of Manchester is the bee!

The Manchester bee symbol was adopted during the industrial revolution, a revolution that Manchester was at the heart of. The bee denotes Mancunians hard work and graft during this era and Manchester being a hive of activity in the 19th century. A mosaic hive of bees is depicted on flooring in the Manchester Town Hall.

Bees are known are hard workers with a vital role to play in the ecosystem and the ability for humans and life forms to survive by pollinating crops. The allegorical link to bees relates that during this era, Manchester was a vital economic centre for Britain and many Mancunians were employed in a range of jobs in the city.

Although it is unverifiable, the idiom busy bee may have originated or at least been popularised as a result of Manchester’s adoption of the bee symbol.

The architecture of our Manchester Roomzzz is testament to this era, see photograph below!
